France, UK, U.S. and several Arab countries sent an ultimatum to Muammar Gaddafi, requesting “immediate” termination of “all attacks” against the Libyan people, before a military intervention under the UN resolution will occur, the Presidency of France announced Friday.
“Resolution 1973 adopted by the Security Council imposes clear obligations to be met”, said the French presidency.
In a message to Colonel Muammar Gaddafi, “France, together with the United States, Britain and Arab countries”, are warning the Libyan leader that “he must implement the ceasefire immediately, and attacks against civilian population must end.”
“Gaddafi should halt the advance of his troops to Benghazi and remove them from Adjdabiyah, Misratah and Zawiyah. Water supply, gas and electricity should be restored in all areas. Libyan population should be able to receive humanitarian aid”, added the communiqué.
“This is not negotiable”, insists the same source.
“If Gaddafi will not comply with Resolution 1973, the international community will make him endure the consequences and will impose the resolution by military force”, the text says.
The statement was issued after a meeting at the Elysee of President Nicolas Sarkozy with the foreign ministers, Alain Juppé, Defense, Gerard Longuet, and Admiral Edouard Guillaud, chief of the army.
France has called for an international summit Saturday on Libya to be decisive for triggering or not of air raids against the regime of Colonel Gaddafi, after he announced a ceasefire on Friday.
