Japanese Prime Minister Warns that the Situation at Fukushima Remains Unpredictable”

The situation at the Fukushima nuclear plant remains “unpredictable,” warned on Friday Japanese Prime Minister, Naoto Kan, two weeks after the earthquake and tsunami have severely damaged several nuclear reactors and caused radioactive leaks.

Plant operator, Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) acknowledged Friday that cooling operations of the reactors usibg water cannons and the work of reinstatement the service of electric water pumps are progressing slowly because of the danger on the ground, a day after hospitalization of some irradiated employees.

TEPCO has also warned that the reactor no. 3, which contains fuel rods could be damaged inside.

Kan expressed his respect “to all those who have joined forces to tackle the most serious crises affecting Japan after World War II”.

March 11 earthquake and tsunami have resulted in at least 10,066 dead and 17,443 people are still missing.

“Two weeks after the disaster, I urge everyone to show solidarity to overcome this crisis”, said the Prime Minister.
