Syria is the victim of a “conspiracy”, believes Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, who has spoken publicly for the first time since the start of the uprising, on March 15th.
The Syrian head of state delivered a speech Wednesday in Parliament, where he presented, in front of the Members of Parliament, the political and economic reforms that he wants to make in an effort to meet the unprecedented challenge movement since his arrival to power in 2000.
“The situation returned to normal in Syria”, said on Wednesday President Bashar al-Assad in Parliament.
“We’re fulfilling the requirements of the people, but we can not support the chaos. If reformists do exist, we will support them, the president said, referring to the riots.
Bashar al-Assad of Syria said that the recent problems are “a test for the unity of the country” and described the riots as “a plot against Syria.”
Assad stressed that these plotters “have picked the wrong nation”. “We will overcome the crisis”, he added.
The American diplomacy said Tuesday that three American citizens were arrested in recent days in Damascus, but one was later released.
