Microsoft Condemns Monopolistic Tendencies of Google

Although it seems unlikely that Microsoft would sue another company on monopoly considerations, a few days ago this happened for real.

Microsoft has made a formal complaint against Google to the European Commission, accusing Google of using illegal methods to dominate the European search market.

From Microsoft, Brad Smith was thrown in into the fighting, General Counsel and Senior Vice President, the same person used to shield the company from antitrust claims brought by competition over the years. Smith said that Google’s purchase of YouTube has resulted in problems of accessing this service using search engines other than Google.

Secondly, through Smith’s voice, Microsoft accuses Google of blocking Windows Mobile phones to work properly with YouTube. Last but not least, the accusations are turning to Google Books through which Google is allegedly trying to block general access to “orphan“ books that do not hold copyright.
