Google Will Launch Chrome Operating System on a Samsung Laptop

South Korean company Samsung will release the first laptop with Chrome operating system to an event that will take place next week, writes British newspaper The Telegraph.

The new, updated Chrome operating system, will introduce a file manager and will have improved access to VPNs (Virtual Private Networks) that corporations use to access internal networks.

Chrome OS is already used on the Google laptop CR-48 made by Samsung, a testing device that was distributed free to developers. Based on Google Chrome Web browser, the system works on the principle that a majority of applications and user needs could be fulfilled through web services.

The hardware used for the laptop prototype system is described as experimental. However, Samsung has already announced that it will be the hardware partner for the devices that will be offered for sale on the market. The event that will take place next week in San Francisco is organized for Google to make a new announcement regarding its operating system.

Speculation on the number of devices that will carry the new system is that it will be limited, suggesting that the laptops will not go on sale immediately. Google officials, who have not made yet any public comment, said earlier that the devices will be on sale this summer.

The first official Chrome OS notebook will be produced by Samsung and will be based on an Intel platform with dual-core Atom N550, clocked at 1.5 GHz. The configuration also includes 2 GB of RAM and a SanDisk SSD for data storage. Chrome interface provided by OS will be displayed on a screen with a 1280 x 800 pixel resolution.

The list continues with a Synaptics touchpad, integrated webcam, 3G connectivity, Wi-Fi, Ethernet and Bluetooth. Unfortunately, a specific launch date has not yet been made public, but we hope to learn more details at the Google I/O developer conference scheduled for next month.
