Dominique Strauss-Kahn will be released on One Million Dollar Bail

A Manhattan court judge approved bail for Dominique Strauss-Kahn. Bail was set at one million dollars and a guarantee deposit of five million dollars. He is also requested to pay for the security (around $200,000/week) which includes an armed guard.

The next hearing in the case of Strauss-Kahn was set for June 6

Judge Michael Obus has decided placing the former director of the IMF under house arrest, with alarm and video equipment installed and wearing an electronic tracking bracelet.

Strauss-Kahn has been formally indicted for seven crimes, including sexual assault, attempted rape and unlawful imprisonment, after being denounced by a chambermaid at Hotel Sofitel in New York.

Dominique Strauss-Kahn’s lawyers argued Thursday in court that he is “a respectable person” and will not escape American justice if he will be released on bail.

Instead, U.S. prosecutor argued that Dominique Strauss-Kahn is a “flight risk” and has “reason to flee” if he will be released on bail. The prosecutor added that “the proof against him is substantial”, the victim gave a clear story of what happened in the hotel room and the results of experts’ examination backed up her story.

Strauss-Kahn will be transferred on Friday to house arrest

Dominique Strauss-Kahn will remain in jail during the night of Thursday to Friday, as the bail documents will be signed on Friday.
