UPS Revolutionary Idea: Left Turn Trucks Will Be “Recyclable”

Having said on CNN that one of the reasons that it makes profit is to have a program that trucks do not ever turn to the left, UPS came with another idea: trucks will be made of plastic.

Thus, the truck in the picture above looks like a regular UPS truck with the only difference that is commonly made of ABS plastic, and, company officials say, will be recyclable. Basically, the plastic parts will replace existing truck parts that are made of aluminum.

Moreover, the new trucks will have smaller engines, which will result in an annual saving of 84 million gallons of fuel.

Although it may seem silly, people at UPS say that one of the reasons that they have reached relatively high profits is that the daily delivery is designed in such a way that the trucks do not ever need to turn left.

Company officials say that this method allowed them to reduce the route with 20.4 million miles, carrying 350,000 additional packages and to reduce the amount of CO2 by 20,000 metric tons.

One explanation would be that if a truck has to make a left turn, it has to find a place where a left turn is allowed, then wait for the cars coming from the opposite direction, then make the left turn safely.

Therefore the routes between the starting point and destination are computer designed by a software that calculates the route so the truck only make right turns.
