Cadillac, a General Motors brand, known for their really big cars and for the big fuel consumption, presents at the Los Angeles salon a concept car under 4 feet long designed to test the market. The car called Luxury Urban Concept has a one-liter gasoline engine and a hybrid system which reduces the fuel consumption bringing it to the average consumption of 4 liters per 100 km.
The concept car presented at the Los Angeles salon is quite different from what Cadillac offers in showrooms: SUVs and sedans with powerful engines and high consumption. The people at GM say that a small model could appear in the Cadillac’s range in future, especially because there is a demand for luxury cars in this segment. The vehicle was built on a platform of Chevrolet Aveo.
The car is 3.83 meters long, 10 cm longer than a Mini. It features scissor-opening doors and an interior with leather seats and many sensitive screens. The engine is also new a Cadillac: engine of 1 liter in three-cylinder helped by few small electrical engines which can reduce the medium-mixed consumption to 4 liters per 100 km, say company representatives.
Many other famous brands for their expensive cars have decided to enter the smaller segment and the best example is presented by Aston Martin which released Cygnet, a 3feet long car built on the smallest model, Toyota iQ.
Cadillac is based almost entirely on the sales in the U.S. where after a disastrous 2009 they managed to come back and advanced to 40% in first ten months.
