Actor Antonio Bandesras believes that the drug abuse of his wife, actress Melanie Griffith, has caused her to be marginalized by Hollywood movie producers.
The actress, aged 53, has become dependent on analgesics, which forced her to take a career break. Antonio Banderas says that, after the treatment for addiction, his wife has not consumed any drugs, noting however, that her battle with drugs had a negative impact on his career and the couple’s relationship, informs femalefirst.co. uk.
“We had problems and she had problems that must be taken care of. She did so and now she works and I am very happy. She is in harmony with herself, she understands that at 53 years old is no longer a very sexy young woman, but she feels good”, said Banderas.
“She was dependent on pills. That was the problem, but she’s totally over it. In the last three years she was sober and she feels great. We had to solve the problem from a professional point of view. I talked about our personal lives, but, professionally this was the reason for her not to act for so long. The problem was Hollywood ostracism”, said Banderas.
However, Antonio Banderas said that he was pleased that Melanie Griffith works again and believes that she a very talented actress.
“Melanie is the most careless person in the world when it comes to what they say about her. She’s a genuine person. She is much better than me in acting. She has something that is very difficult to obtain, something you’re born with or not”, said the actor.
Melanie Griffith was rewarded with a Golden Globe and had and Oscar nomination for her role in “Working Girl” film in which she starred with Harrison Ford. The actress also starred in productions like “Shining Through” with Michael Douglas, “Lolita”, “Nobody’s Fool”, “Something Wild” and in 2002 she voiced a character in “Stuart Little 2”.
Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas have been married since 1996. They have together a daughter, Stella del Carmen.
