Intel and Motorola Mobility signed a strategic partnership

Intel Motorola Mobility partnershipIntel Corporation and Motorola Mobility have announced a strategic partnership for a few types of devices, including smartphones based on Intel Atom processors and Android platform. The devices will be available in the second half of 2012. The multi-year agreement was announced yesterday at the CES 2012 in Las Vegas.

This collaboration, which also covers Tablet PCs, will combine Intel’s leadership in silicon technology and innovations in the computer industry with Motorola’s experience in mobile equipment. The partnership’s goal is to provide products with longer battery life and features that transform the current lifestyle in a mobile one.

“When the highest quality silicon and software technologies meet with mobile devices and novel product designs, amazing things happen. Long-term partnership with Motorola Mobility helps to accelerate integration of the Intel architecture in the mobile equipment market share. We expect that this collaboration will lead to setting new standards and providing high performance computing capabilities on smartphones and tablet PCs, creating new experiences and improving the way people relate to, regardless of their location”, said Paul Otellini, Intel president and CEO.

“We are pleased to partner with Intel, which will provide home and business users smartphones and tablet PCs based on Intel Atom processors. Although currently there are 5 billion people worldwide using mobile devices, less than 800 million are using a smartphone. Because of Android operating system, which is now a global leader, and computing technologies, we see huge opportunities for us to address this market”, said Sanjay Jha, Chairman and CEO, Motorola Mobility.

Smartphones and tablet PCs are quickly becoming an indispensable equipment in everyday life, turning into constant companions. The strategic partnership between Intel and Motorola Mobility will expand opportunities for innovation in these areas, as the architecture system-on-chip (SoC) from Intel will be integrated into Motorola’s portfolio of mobile devices. The companies will work together on hardware, software and services to provide complete solutions and a linear user experience, offering a long battery life, high performance, advanced photo and video capabilities and powerful wireless  connectivity.
