US President Thinks Airport Security Rules Are the Lesser Evil

The American president Barack Obama expressed his position in favor of the new and highly criticized security measures at US airports and underscored their importance and necessity in preventing potential terrorist attacks.

The new security measures sparked a wave of objections, from both citizens and businesses. Airline travelers disagree with the full-body scans and highly thorough frisking performed by airport security agents at the checkpoints.

Reportedly Obama believes that the situation will continue to evolve and that more work is needed on the project. While he understands the frustration travelers may feel, he also pointed out that a successful attack that could have been prevented would generate far more problems and it would be far more upsetting than the new wave of security tightening.

Following the September 11 attacks, the US has increased its security spending to unprecedented amounts and security was tightened in all possible sectors, with a focus on airport security. The last wave, which generates high public discontent, is just one of the many measure taken ever since. By the start of 2012 some 1200 full-body scanners will be installed in US airports, while thorough patdowns and luggage checks at security checkpoints are already in place.
