The Queen will add a Samsung tablet to the Royal Collection

Queen Elizabeth IIThe Queen will soon add a Samsung Galaxy tablet to the Royal Collection, which will be presented as a “digital capsule” including videos, photos and texts related to the six decades of the reign of Elizabeth the Second, according to BBC.

Multimedia files are memories of the past 60 years sent by 37,000 people from 66 countries, including Prince Harry and Oscar Pistorius. Organizers gathered 80,000 files that include videos, photographs and text with a total size of 150 gigabytes.

The selection was made by a jury that included, among others, the Royal Photographic Society Director General and the Royal Librarian.

All 80,000 files will be available online in the gallery called “The Diamond re(Collection)”, reminiscent of the Diamond Jubilee of Queen celebrated this year.

Volunteers were given a website and a mobile application for submitting proposals.

The most common event in the “memoirs” sent by participants is the 2011 wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton. London riots details are also a part of the time-capsule.

“The digital nature of the project required a digital device to present to Her Majesty, and The Queen will be able to press ‘play’ on the tablet before watching a video of some of the best Jubilee time-capsule entries,” said Danny Sriskandarajah, Director of the charity organization Royal Commonwealth Society, project organizers.

The organization notes that it has considered the use of Apple’s iPad, but finally opted for a tablet Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1. The tablet will be stored in the Royal Collection at Windsor Castle. The collection already includes other digital products, such as PCs and DVDs, as well as art, furniture and more. The collection is entrusted to every sovereign, who is responsible for enriching if for their successors and the nation.

Her Majesty received from Barack Obama her first iPod in 2009 with photos and video from her visit to the U.S. The Queen has her own YouTube channel and her last Christmas speech is available on Kindle.
