The Bayern Munich soccer club (Fussball-Club Bayern München) registered a record turnover of €332.2 million in 2011-2012 season, even though the Bavarian soccer club have not won any trophy, announced on Thursday evening the German group. Bayern Munich was founded in 1900 by a group of eleven players. The best period in its history was 1974 – 1976, when the club won the European Champion Clubs’ Cup (an European soccer competition initially open only for the champion club of each country). Bayern play its home games since 2005 – 2006 season at the Allianz Arena. The club’s colors are red and white and its membership includes more than 185,000 people.
“Bayern Munich has today a strong economic base as had never had in its history of 112 years,” said Karl Hopfner, financial officer of the club.
Previous record turnover, €312 million was recorded in 2009-2010, when Bayern won the Bundesliga, the top tier soccer league in Germany and played the Champions League final, losing to Inter Milan. Last season, the Bavarian turnover was €290.9 million.
The EBITDA operating profit of the group was €69.3 million, while the profit after tax amounted to €11.1 million, figures that are also records in the history of the club. Bayern has made a profit for the 20th consecutive year.
Last season, the team coached by Jupp Heynckes took second place in the championship, behind Borussia Dortmund, lost the German Cup final, also to the Dortmund team, as well as the Champions League final act, in a game played in Munich against the English team Chelsea.
In the summer break, Bayern spent €70 million for transfers, a big chunk of this, €40 million was used for the acquisition of the Spanish International Javi Martinez.
This season, the team from Bavaria is leading the championship after winning 10 of the 11 games played, amassing 30 points, seven more than the second place team, Schalke 04.
