A new study in Britain suggests that people who use their own electronic devices at work perform better.
A few years ago, the employers were giving to workers the chance to work with the latest technologies. Whether it was a computer or a photocopier, most people could not afford to buy them for personal use. Now, however, it seems that employees have become increasingly interested in using their own devices at work.
According to a YouGov survey, companies that allow employees to use their own technologies have seen an increase in productivity by 30 percent.
Therefore, the company Citrix Online (which commissioned the study) put aside a budget to employees to buy their own gadgets.
The survey revealed that now, more than ever, technology is as important at home as it is at the office.
More than half of managers surveyed did not know what kind of equipment their employees used. But, in 50% of companies, the of use personal equipment offers a greater functionality and flexibility than using those provided by employers.
Although there are companies that are afraid to allow external devices to access their internal networks, increasing pressure from employees working from home will solve the problem in the coming years.
However, the changes will have a significant impact on how employees work. By giving employees the chance to work on their own schedule, managers will only be able to evaluate the results.
“The change will be huge. Because the boundaries between office hours and free time are less distinct, managers are about to lose control over how people work. That is why we should not be surprised that some companies oppose this change. However, if a team is right, both employers and employees will be hard to resist the new trend”, concluded Andrew Millard, Citrix representative.
