Four people were killed and over 100 injured after the magnitude-7.1 earthquake on Thursday night in Northeast Japan, an area devastated about a month ago by an earthquake followed by a huge tsunami.
A woman, aged 63, who was under respiratory assistance, died in Yagami Prefecture. Two men, aged 79 and respectively 85, died in Miyagi prefecture, according to television station NHK and Jiji news agency.
In Miyagi Prefecture Tome city, a woman, aged 83, died after being hospitalized, the agency Jiji said, quoting a doctor.
The agency re-evaluated the number of injured at about 140, after this earthquake, identified as a replica of the March 11 magnitude-9 earthquake.
The quake occurred at 23.32 local time at a depth of 49 kilometers, according to the American Geological Survey Institute (USGS). Its epicenter was located in the Pacific Ocean, 66 kilometers east of Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture.
A tsunami warning of up two meters high was issued after an hour and a half, but canceled shortly after, as there were no abnormally high waves.
Nuclear Safety Agency announced that no nuclear plant in the region has suffered damage. Staff working at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant (number 1) were evacuated as a precautionary measure, to the interior of the island.
Approximately 3.3 million homes were left without electricity in Northeastern region, announced local electricity company, Tohoku Electric Power.
After the massive earthquake followed by tsunami on March 11, there were over 27,000 dead and missing, according to the police.
