Germany Does Not Believe in Solving the Libyan Crisis in a Military Way

German Foreign Minister appeals to Libyan leader to cease Fire

Guido Westerwelle, who is on a visit to Beijing, says that the situation in Libya can not be solved by military means.

“For Libya there is only a political solution and we must put into motion a political process”, said German Minister, following a meeting in Beijing with his Chinese counterpart, Yang Jiechi. “This should begin with a cease-fire from Gaddafi in order to start a peace process”, added Westerwelle.

Chinese Minister recalled, in turn, that Germany and China abstained from voting on Resolution 1973 UN Security Council on March 17, a document that paved the way for the international coalition airstrikes.

Beijing is against using military force against Libya and warned France, the United States and Britain against attacks that would violate the spirit of UN resolution, that is protecting the civilian population.
