Rapper Ja Rule charged with illegal possession of weapons, pleaded guilty Monday at the court in New York. He will be sentenced to two years in prison, according to sources in American justice.
In July 2007, police searched the car of the rapper Ja Rule, after he attended a concert by Lil Wayne, and discovered a semiautomatic weapon.
Aged 34 years old, Jeff Atkins, as known as Ja Rule, was likely to receive a greater sentence if he pleaded not guilty. The rapper was released until the date on which the sentence will be pronounced.
In the evening of that concert in 2007, U.S. police discovered firearms also in Lil Wayne’s car, aged 28 years. After pleading guilty, Lil Wayne was convicted in March 2009, to imprisonment for one year in prison. The rapper was released this year in November, for good behavior.
Ja Rule was born in Queens, New York, in 1976. He began his rap career in 1994 with the group Cash Money Click. Ja Rule has become, over time, more than a rapper, a hip-hop artist of world class, a talented composer, but also a movie star. Known for his hits like “Holla, Holla”, “I’m Real” (a duet with Jennifer Lopez), Ja Rule has launched seven albums and sold over 20 million units worldwide.
In parallel, Ja Rule followed a film career, starring in several Hollywood productions, the most famous being “The Fast and the Furious” and “Scary Movie 3.”
