British company Jaguar Land Rover, bought by Indian Tata group from Ford in 2008, gave the green light to the C-X75 project, a hybrid supercar that should be commercially available in 2013.
According to British media, the next Jaguar should cost between 700,000 pounds (791,500 euros) and 900,000 pounds. British officials said that the car company can reach a top speed of 320 km/h without exceeding the emissions of a small class economic car (99 gCO2/km).
“The concept-car version of C-X75 looked astonishing at the 2010 car show in Paris. We built on that momentum and we decided that this model can help the brand image”, said Adrian Hallmark, director of the Jaguar brand.
The future C-X75 will be built by Jaguar in collaboration with the Williams Formula 1 team which will provide experience in aerodynamic design, the use of carbon fiber and hybrid technology.
The first information indicates that the entire car chassis will be built of carbon fiber to reduce weight without losing rigidity. Conventional engine cylinder capacity will be reduced to four-cylinder turbo-charged, but it’s assisted by four electric motors, one for each wheel.
According to officials, the Jaguar C-X75 will be one of the world’s fastest cars: 0-100 km/h in under three seconds and 0-100 mph in less than six seconds.
There will be only 250 Jaguar C-X75 cars manufactured in the next two years.
