Japan: Mobilization Against Nuclear Energy, Vast Operation to Find Bodies of Missing Persons

About 15,000 people gathered Sunday in Tokyo to protest against nuclear energy, amid the crisis triggered by the damage at the Fukushima-1 power plant, announced Kyodo agency.

‘No nuclear bombs! No more Fukushima!”, the demonstrators chanted.

Fukushima plant’s cooling system was damaged by a devastating earthquake on March 11 when a state of emergency was decreed in the area. Several explosions rocked the plant reactors, causing scattering of radioactive elements into the atmosphere. People were evacuated within a radius of 20 km. In several regions of the country have been detected traces of radioactive Iodine and Cesium.

Japanese Self Defense Force and U.S. Army began Sunday a large-scale search operation to find bodies of missing persons during the earthquake and tsunami, informs the press service of the Japanese Ministry of Defense.

Following the natural disaster of March 11, there have been discovered so far 12,985 dead people and nearly 15,000 are missing. About 22,000 Japanese soldiers and 110 American soldiers will search the bodies of victims in the earthquake and tsunami affected areas.
