Serbian Justice Requires Authorization to Question Ratko Mladic, in ICC Custody

Serbian war crimes prosecutor asked on Saturday the International Criminal Court for the former Yugoslavia authorization to questioning Ratko Mladic in connection with crimes committed by Bosnian forces against Serbs.

“War crimes prosecutor requested authorization to interrogate Ratko Mladic in connection with crimes committed by Muslim forces controlled by Naser Oric against Serb civilians and prisoners in eastern Bosnia in April 1992 – June 1995”, it said in an official  statement of the Serbian Prosecutor’s Office.

Serbian Justice states that it is interested in the events that were not included in the ICC indictment against Naser Oric, former commander of Bosnian forces in Srebrenica. “It’s about events that occurred between Zvornik and Skelane, Srebrenica and nearby villages Fakovic, Hajvaz, Zalazje, Ilino Brdo, Crni Vrh, Sekovic, Bratunac, Kravica, Kragljivade, Konjevic Polje, Glogovo Polje,” reads the statement.

Naser Oric, sentenced to two years in prison in the first court in 2006 for failing to prevent crimes committed against Serbs, was acquitted by ICC on appeal on July 03, 2008.

Ratko Mladic, arrested on May 26 in Serbia, after being pursued for 16 years, and transferred to The Hague on Tuesday, is charged for his role in the massacre at Srebrenica in July 1995, when allegedly close to 8,000 Muslims were killed, and for the siege of Sarajevo.
