A group of hackers simply paralyzed the Gawker.com website when they’ve succeeded to extract over 100,000 active emails with passwords. Hence, the FBI decided to join the party and thus, CEO Nick Denton was the first one to be interrogated.
After releasing the whole bulk of emails to PirateBay.org, Denton had only one thing to say “We’re really embarrassed by this breach.” He further on stated that he didn’t know why the vigilantes did such a thing. However, Gnosis had something else to say declaring that Gawker had been chosen because of their “arrogance”.
At some point, everyone started panicking and thus, they started deleting all their accounts. After Gawker decided to disable Facebook Connect servers, the people were advised to change all their passwords. This is not the first time when Gawker is being hacked. Throughout the past another group called 4Chan who also attached MasterCard, had an altercation with Gawker.
Apart from the fact that nobody spotted the issue, Denton declared that at some point there was a spike in the website traffic. People were angry with the CEO and as a result, they began twittering about his incompetence and inability to protect their privacy.
