Tina Turner will become a Swiss citizen

The star has been living in Switzerland for 20 years but, in order to become a citizen in Switzerland, she must get the approval of the representatives of the Zurich Canton and Confederation.

Representatives of Küsnacht village situated on Lake Zurich gave Tina Turner the right of residence – the decision was made public Friday.


 

“I’m very happy in Switzerland and I feel at home here… I cannot imagine a better place to live,” said Tina Turner for the Swiss daily Blick. She appreciated the respect that Swiss people have for privacy.

Tina Turner retired from public life after her 2008/2009 tour. The singer learned German and moved to Switzerland in 1995 to live with her partner Erwin Bach. According Blick, Tina Turner intends to renounce U.S. citizenship when she receives the Swiss passport.

Tina Turner was born Anna Mae Bullock on November 26, 1939, in Brownsville (Tennessee). Her father worked on a cotton plantation and her mother was of aboriginal origin. The singer has converted from Baptism to Buddhism in 1974.

After high school, Tina Turner moved to St. Louis, the capital of Blues, where she met Ike Turner, a guitarist eight years older than her. Their first single – “Fool in Love” – ​​climbed to first place in the Hit Parade top.

Her solo career started to pick up in 1966, with the release of “River Deep Mountain High”, produced with Phil Spector.

Her marriage began to deteriorate after due to Ike Turner becoming addicted to drugs and abusive. Tina Turner left him on July 2, 1976, taking with her the couple’s four children, two of whom her husband had from a previous relationship.

During the divorce, she waived any support from Ike and the rights of common songs. She re-started her solo career in 1984 in New York, when she had half a million dollars in debt and was living on welfare. In the same year, at age 45, Tina Turner has won four Grammy Awards for the comeback album “Private Dancer” and appeared alongside Mel Gibson in the “Mad Max – Beyond Thunderdome” movie. She starred in numerous films and released another 10 music albums, receiving numerous awards.
