Syria is rocked by protests, tens of thousands of Syrians have marched today in the country against the government. One day after the new government, appointed to carry out the reforms was installed, people continued to get to the streets to change the regime.
North of Damascus, security forces launched tear gas to disperse about 2,000 demonstrators in Jobar, said a human rights activist, according to AFP. He said that the violence against demonstrators are continuing.
U.S. Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, called on Syria to cease repression of the protests challenging the regime and respond peacefully to the democratic aspirations of the country, informs AFP: “We again ask the Syrian authorities to refrain from any violence against their people”, Clinton said to journalists in Berlin, after a NATO meeting in the German capital.
“Syrian government has not responded to the legitimate requests of the Syrian people. It is time for the Syrian government to stop oppressing its citizens and begin to meet their aspirations”, said Hillary Clinton.
Moreover, Washington has already accused Iran for helping the Syrian regime to repress the demonstrations in Syria.
Already for a month, significant protests took place in Syria to remove President Bashar al-Assad regime, in power since 2000. Authorities have used violence for the repression of demonstrators. Over 100 people were killed, human rights campaigners say.
