World Water Day is celebrated today, March 22nd, 2011. It’s a day when people all over the world either organize or make special arrangements to create awareness about the importance of water conservation as a whole.
The world today is in a water crisis with more than half of the world’s population not having access to sufficient and clean drinking water. And world conservation day is a much needed event to create awareness about the many ways that people waste water every day. There are people who do not realize that they waste about a gallon of water each day.
“We need to make a good impact on the people around us because children in china don’t have enough water to drink and take a bath properly” said Kimberly Ann age 6 years who was an active participant in her school play about the earth and its water resources.
“Our students are very enthusiastic and it is a refreshing change when you see them act this responsibly at the young age, it gives you hope for a better tomorrow and a better future for generations to come” Kindergarten teacher Julia Kennard said when asked about the students and events.
Different organizations have held benefit concerts and also booked celebrities to come and be a part of the events to attract more people and spread the word as well.
Seminars and plays have also been conducted to make people more aware of the millions or ways that we waste water all through the day.
“Each day we waste water that can very well mean the difference between life and death for some people.” A reporter who attended a seminar stated as the common feeling and topic of most of the seminars that were conducted. This was a Global event and countries have participated in water conservation awareness as a whole.
