At least 60 dead in violence that took place Thursday in Syria

Violence SyriaAt least 60 people, mostly civilians, were killed in violence on Thursday in Syria, according to Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR, a human rights organization based in UK). The victims included 13 members of one family killed in the village of Kafar-Ton in Hama province (center), stormed by the regime forces. Three children and 16 soldiers were killed in clashes produced in other regions.

Nine civilians were killed in Deraa and military deserters killed five members of the police. In Aleppo, security forces have killed several local university students, and have used tear gas against 2,000 demonstrators. In Idleb province (northwest), seven civilians were killed by security forces and five soldiers were killed after their vehicle was attacked.

Two Western journalists were killed Wednesday in Homs. The Syrian regime rejected Thursday any responsibility for the deaths of the two Western journalists killed Wednesday during a raid in the rebel city Homs, considering that they were there “on their own “. “We refuse the statements attributing government the responsibility of killing the journalists who have infiltrated Syrian territory on their own responsibility”, said the Minister of Foreign Affairs on state television.

“Minister of Foreign Affairs reiterates the need for journalists to follow the rules of journalistic activity in Syria and avoid entering illegally the Syrian territory to reach problem areas that are not safe”, added the Minister. This statement occurred after the deaths of two journalists, American Marie Colvin, Sunday Times reporter, and Frenchman Remi Ochlik, photographer of IP3 Press Agency, during the siege of a building converted into press center for militants in Homs. At least three other journalists were injured. Syrian regime has imposed major restrictions on foreign journalists for visas for travel in the country.
