Only 22 countries that the British have not invaded

United Kingdom invasionsThe British have invaded 90% of the countries throughout history. The list of the few countries that were not invaded yet includes Vatican, Sweden, Liechtenstein and Luxembourg, according to The Telegraph.

A historical analysis conducted by Stuart Laycock in his book “All the Countries We’ve Ever Invaded: And the Few We Never Got Round To,” shows that of the nearly 200 countries in the world, only 22 have not had the experience of the British invasion.

The author has been researching the history of each country in alphabetical order to determine if, at a certain time, they experienced a British invasion. But only a small part of the invaded countries on Laycock’s list were officially part of the English empire. The countries were included in the British Empire by either the temporary presence of military forces in the field, by force or threat of force, negotiation or payment of a tax.

The raids of English pirates, military or armed explorers were taken into account by Laycock, because they were approved by the British government. Thus, many countries that were once part of the Spanish Empire, such as Costa Rica, Ecuador and El Salvador, entered the list of the territories invaded by the British because they were under assault of the seafarers raids backed by England.

Stuart Laycock began studying this subject when his 11-year-old son, Frederick, asked him how many countries have invaded Britain. “I was absolutely staggered when I reached the total. I like to think I have a relatively good general knowledge. But there are places where it hadn’t occurred to me that these things had ever happened. It shocked me,” said the author of the study that lasted almost two years. He added: “I don’t think anyone could match this, although the Americans had a later start and have been working hard on it in the 20th century.”

The list drawn up by the British author would be the first compilation of its kind. States which were never invaded by the United Kingdom are:
