62,000 People Employed by McDonald’s in One Day

Fast-food industry giant McDonald’s announced today that its recruitment day held ten days ago in the United States has brought in 62,000 new workers over the planned target of 50,000, according to AFP.

“In April 2011, McDonald’s and its franchises received over a million job applications. As a result, we exceeded the goals of employment and we provided over 62,000 people across the country a new opportunity, whether it is a short term experience or a career for life”, said in a press statement the vice-president in charge of human resources, Danitra Barnett.

On 19 April, thousands of people crowded McDonald’s headquarters for the first employment day ever organized by the group. “I hope that this initiative will start to redefine the jobs at McDonald’s”, Mrs. Barnett added.

In New York, managers of various fast-food restaurants McDonald’s questioned by AFP refused to disclose any information about the salary for the candidates accepted to work for McDonald’s. Nicole Curtin said that the contract provided medical insurance and education support, but wages do not necessarily exceed the national minimum standard of $ 7.25 per hour.
