24-Hour and then a 7-Day Extension to Deal Talks between NFL and the Players’ Union

To save the most popular as well as the richest sport of America the union of players and NFL have decided to give 24 hours more to their negotiations to in a last attempt to save the playing empire of 9 billion dollars.

The threat of a lockout by the owners and the possibility of lawsuit by the union have been delayed for at least a day which was announced after President Obama conveyed that he was not interested in the fight between the billionaires and the millionaires.

He further commented that both parties should work out a solution without the intervention of the president at the time when economy is in a recovery phase and people are worried about the mortgage payments and their children’s education.

As the initial deadline was coming up closer by Thursday midnight the decision to make an extension in negotiations came on Thursday which was the last day for talks in the capital.

NFL officials without giving any statement left the place and the confirmation regarding the extension was given by George Cohen who is the mediator.  However, DeMaurice Smith who is Executive Director of the players association before making an exit gave a little hope that there might be a compromise and appreciated the patience shown by all the fans as they move through this.

Over the last ten days both sides were holding negotiations regarding the division of annual profits after months of failed talks.
According to Roger Goodell, who is the NFL commissioner, the salaries of players were rising at a more rapid pace than the revenues of the league and this business model should be changed to cater the growth of the sport.

The players were quite satisfied with the existing conditions but owners wanted to have more revenues.
