All nuclear reactors in the United States of America are built to withstand earthquakes and tsunamis, said Thursday the Chairman of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), Gregory Jaczko.
“All the nuclear power plants in the U.S. are designed to cope with any kind of seismic activity that could occur”, the U.S. official said in a press conference.
Nuclear reactors in California have a “robust” protection against earthquakes and all plants located in coastal areas of the U.S. can withstand seismic waves, said Gregory Jaczko, quoted by Reuters.
