22 People Killed During Demonstrations in Three Syrian Cities

Twenty-two people were killed Friday in three Syrian cities during demonstrations hostile to the regime, said Ammar Qurabi, president of National Organisation of Human Rights.

“We have a nominal list of 17 protesters killed in Deraa and we were informed about the death of two demonstrators in Homs (160 km north of Damascus) and three in Harasta, a village located 12 kilometers north of Damascus, said Qurabi.

A previous review mentioned the deaths of 13 people in Deraa, 100 kilometers south of Damascus, the center of the movement challenging the regime.

“We found more use of real bullets, tear gas and another gas that causes fainting”, he said.

“Members of the security services in civilian clothes opened fire to disperse demonstrators, after the prayer, said previously a human rights activist in Deraa.

Two deaths were announced by the official newspapers, a member of the security services and an ambulance worker, and dozens of civilians, police and security service agents wounded, hit by shootings attributed to “armed men who opened fire on the crowd”.

Syria has been, since mid-March, the theater of unprecedented movements contesting the regime of Bashar al-Assad.
