Opponents of the regime in Damascus made a call today to the opposition in an effort to organize demonstrations tomorrow under the name of “Friday defiance”, despite continued mass arrests throughout the country, informs AFP.
“On Friday defiance, we challenge convention injustice, the oppression and fear, we free ourselves”, they announced.
Last night, hundreds of Syrian armed soldiers stormed Saqba suburb of Damascus. They entered the homes of local people and arrested several people, according to witnesses.
“They cut off all means of communication. There is no opposition. The demonstrations were peaceful in Saqba. Dozens of people were arrested, Reuters witnesses said.
Thousands died due to government repression
Yesterday, the Syrian regime has carried out dozens of tanks around two major centers of the protest movement, thus enhancing the siege in a clear sign that Bashar al-Assad wants to expand the use of force to quell demonstrations against his regime.
When a human rights organization estimated at 8,000 the number of dead and disappeared people in Syria since the beginning of the protests, on March 15, France has requested sanctions against President Bashar al-Assad’ regime, and Washington has called it a “barbaric repression”.
