U.S. President Barack Obama began Tuesday his visit in the UK by meeting with Prince William and his wife, in an effort to revitalize the “special” Anglo-American relationship.
Greeted by the Queen and Prince at Buckingham Palace, the presidential couple has sent congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, William and Catherine, on their return from the honeymoon spent in the Seychelles.
The Obama couple has a friendship relationship with Queen Elisabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh since their first visit in April 2009.
American leader will be met by British Prime Minister David Cameron in Downing Street on Tuesday evening, after which he will meet with opposition Labour leader David Miliband.
Serious things will really begin Wednesday with a formal meeting between Barack Obama and David Cameron, during which they will discuss the situation in Afghanistan and Libya and the Middle East peace process.
The two leaders will focus on the “essential relationship” between the two countries.
“When the United States and Britain make common ground, our people and the whole world are safe and become more prosperous. Our relationship is not just special, but is essential for us and the world” say the two leaders.
Obama will deliver a speech on Wednesday in the British Parliament, after which he will travel to France.
