German health officials confirmed that they have detected the first case where the very aggressive form of E. Coli bacteria has been transmitted from person to person. It is about a woman who worked at a catering company in Frankfurt, infected with the bacteria and has transmitted it to other 20 people who ate food prepared by her.
“We have evidence that in this case a man dropped the germ on the vegetables, which then was sent to other people”, said the German Minister of Health, Daniel Bahr. The minister warned that although bacterial epidemic already caused 39 deaths and more than 3,000 people ill, are still possible other illnesses and fatalities.
The killing bacteria – in a river in northern Germany
Officials announced last Friday that the dangerous strains of E. coli was discovered in a river nearby to Frankfurt. Even if officials say there would be no impact on local water reserves, citizens are advised not to swim in local rivers and not to wash anything with this water.
