A man in the London entourage of Amy Winehouse claims that the star had bought cocaine and heroin worth £1,200 on the night before her death.
Tony Azzopardi, who is re-interviewed by the police today claims that he helped the singer to buy drugs in the early hours of July 23, the same day when she was found dead in her home in London, according to Daily Mail.
The man, aged 56, was introduced to the star entourage by her former husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, and claims that the singer’s family wants “to know the truth about what happened”.
Azzopardi said that Amy Winehouse would be asked him to help her buy drugs. The man claims to have taken together a taxi to West Hampstead, where they contacted a local dealer. According to Tony Azzopardi, the singer would have paid 1,200 pounds for about 15 grams of cocaine and 15 grams of heroin. Later, the man would have separated from the singer in Archway, north London.
Several hours later, Amy’s lifeless body was found by a security guard in her apartment.
Despite statements by Azzopardi, police said that they didn’t find any drugs at the star’s home and singer’s family said that Azzopardi’s story does not fit with what Amy would have done that day.
British singer, whose meteoric career was undermined by numerous problems caused by alcohol and drug addiction, was found dead on Saturday afternoon in her apartment in North London.
The autopsy was completed earlier last week, without a cause of the death being established. A judicial investigation was opened at St. Pancras Coroner’s Court in London (specialized court in cases of violent or unexpected death), but the next term was set for October 26.
According to police in Britain, the singer’s death is being investigated as “unexplained” but not “suspicious”.
Amy Winehouse was fighting for years drug and alcohol addiction. She recently completed a course of rehab and tried to return on stage by a European tour, which she eventually had to cancel.
Amy has “beat” drug addiction and “really tried to solve the problem she had with alcohol”, said the star’s father, Mitch Winehouse, a former taxi driver that became a jazz singer, during his speech that he gave in memory of his daughter, at her funeral.
