George Clooney wants to raise $12 million for Obama campaign

George Clooney Barack ObamaGeorge Clooney will hold a dinner to raise funds for the re-election campaign of Barack Obama, on May 10 at his home in Studio City, Los Angeles, trying to raise $12 million, informs accesshollywood.com. According to The Hollywood Reporter, several Hollywood stars and executives – about 140 people – have paid $40,000 each to attend the dinner with Clooney and Obama. In this campaign of Clooney it is expected that donations amounting to a total of $6 million will be raised. Thus, in total, Clooney could raise about $12 million for the President Barack Obama campaign. U.S. presidential election will take place on November 6 this year.

George Clooney gained fame as an actor, producer, executive producer, writer and director. The son of a journalist, George Clooney is a very active supporter of the First Amendment and also an activist dedicated to humanitarian causes. Rather than limit his actions by becoming a politician, George Clooney says he prefers charity work, which include campaigns aimed to attract international attention on social and political causes, for example, the historic referendum held recently in Sudan by which the province south of the country, with a Christian population majority, has become an independent state.

In 2006, George Clooney received three Oscar nominations – for best director, best original screenplay (with Grant Heslov), for “Good Night and Good Luck”, and the best supporting role in “Syriana”, for which he received the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor and Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor. This was the first time in the Oscar history when someone has been nominated in the same year for acting and directing, for two different films. Since then, he has been nominated three times for an Oscar in the “best actor” category, for “Michael Clayton”, “Up in the Air” and “The Descendants” for which he won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor. Actor was nominated in 2012 for “Best Screenplay” for the script of the movie “The Ides of March”.
