Al-Qaeda leader rejects U.S. apology for burning copies of Quran

Ayman al ZawahiriAl-Qaeda terrorist network leader, Ayman al-Zawahiri, has described as “a farce” the American apology for the burning of  Quran copies in a military base in Afghanistan, calling all Muslims to support the Taliban, according to AFP.

“This is a new crime from the Crusaders by insulting the holy Quran and mocking the prophet,” said al-Zawahiri in a seven-minute record for an Islamist website and translated into English by SITE, a U.S. surveillance center for Islamist pages. In February, thousands of Afghans have violently demonstrated in front of the U.S. base in Bagram, accusing the troops that for burning several Quran books. According to U.S. officials, these copies were confiscated because some prisoners were using them to exchange messages between them. U.S. officials, including President Obama have sent apologies to the Afghan people.

“After each of their murder, they claim that they regret it and say that they will investigate it, a stupid joke that Obama repeated again, in this case,” added the leader of the extremist organization. “American Crusaders and their allies have shown once again that they bear hatred of Islam, the holy book of Islam and the Prophet of Islam”, he added, appealing to Muslims worldwide to “fight against the enemies of God and the messenger of it”, supporting the Taliban.

Ayman al-Zawahiri called in March for the Afghans to revolt against “crusaders pigs”, referring to American soldiers filmed while urinating over the bodies of Taliban bodies. He also mentioned the issue of copies of the Quran books burned. Several scandals in recent months have tarnished the image of American soldiers in Afghanistan. In addition, more images showed U.S. soldiers posing with the corpses of Taliban and a U.S. military massacred 17 Afghan civilians.
