Two Ferrari collection cars were sold for huge prices

1958 Ferrari 250 GT LWB California SpiderThe $4.6-million sale of supercar of Batman, the Batmobile, captured most of the headlines on the car auction in Scottsdale, Arizona this weekend, but huge prices paid for a couple of Ferraris and other exotic cars are the real story, according to CNBC. Two Ferrari cars were sold for more than $8 million and 23 other cars were sold for more than $1 million at the Scottsdale auction. This led to a historical record of Scottsdale sales – $223.8 million, $40 million more than the record set a year earlier. At the same time, the new record exceeds by $60 million the pre-crisis peak of $163 million set in 2007.

McKeel Hagerty, CEO of Hagerty collector car insurer says that sales at recent auctions and private transactions show that the collector car market rises to new levels. Even vans and trucks are sold for hundreds of thousands of dollars, such as a 1969 Ford Bronco sold for $500,000 at the Scottsdale auction.

Craig Jackson, CEO of Barrett-Jackson  Collector Car Auction, with sales that exceeded $100 million at the Scottsdale auction, said that many buyers in 2006 and 2007 were in real estate. Today, many customers come from oil and gas industry. “You see a lot of guys who now make money in shale gas,” he said.

The average selling price this year was $100,176, up from last year’s average of $85,169. Here is a list, according to Hagerty insurer, of the 10 most expensive car sales and the name of the sellers (price includes 10% seller fee):
