The arrest of another United States embassy employee is being demanded in Pakistan by a local man, reports the lawyer of the US embassy employee on Friday. This incident has added further fuel to the already aggravated situation and strained ties between the United States government and Pakistani government.
This action has been taken after US officials have been pressurizing Pakistani officials to release an alleged employee of the US consulate in Pakistan, Raymond Davis, an ex. US Special Forces soldier, who is currently locked up in Pakistan for his killing two Pakistani men in Lahore in the last month. According to Raymond Davis, he killed them in self defense to prevent himself getting robbed.
A petition has been filed in the Lahore High Court by Ijaz-ur-Rehman, who is the brother of the deceased man, Ibad, who got killed due to the reckless driving while an embassy vehicle was sent to rescue Raymond Davis out of the mob, when he had killed two men.
According to the lawyer of Rehman, Noman Atiq, the petition to the Lahore High Court demands that the driver of the vehicle be arrested and the vehicle be impounded.
Rehman said that he wanted a proper investigation to be done in the murder of his brother and that he wanted to see the culprits getting punished for their brutal crime.
The case of Davis is the most recent bone of contention between Washington and Islamabad. This incident is in fact another test of the already scratched alliance between the two governments.
The Pakistani government seems to be pretty much compliant with the pertinent Vienna regulations and also quite much cooperative with the US government regarding the release of Raymond Davis but it fears popular fury by anti-American opposition and Islamists if it releases him.
