A million Brazilians have joined a site for extramarital affairs

Extramarital affair siteThe site for extramarital affairs Ashley Madison, has, a year after its launch in Brazil, more than a million users that are looking for sexual adventures. Created ten years ago in Canada and expanded to 24 countries, the Ashley Madison site recorded the highest growth in Brazil, a huge South American country that worships sensuality.

“Brazilians have a great penchant for pleasure, sex and fun,” says Eduardo Borges, the site administrator in this country, which has a population of 194 million.

“All these issues are accompanied by their passion for technology, the need to communicate and get to know people,” Eduardo Borges added, insisting that this site does not promote adultery, but offers a “practical alternative to do it properly”. Just on this “savoir faire” has Ashley Madison based the advertising campaigns referring to some of the most famous husbands in the world, Bill Clinton and Prince Charles of Great Britain.

“We started in Brazil in late August 2011. We planned on 500,000 users a year, but we reached over 800,000 and, at the end of 2012 we will have over a million. This is a much bigger grow than expected,”

Eduardo Borges said.

With 17 million users worldwide – including 8 million in the U.S. and 6 million in Canada – the Ashley Madison website recorded a turnover of $120 million this year, but Eduardo Borges refused to reveal the turnover in Brazil. Brazil, which has over 80 million Internet users, is the second largest market for Ashley Madison, in terms of turnover, according to Borges.

To find your soul mate or to have an extramarital affair, there are a variety of sites in Brazil, where other world players in this sector are present, such as eHarmony and Second Love.

Ashley Madison creators were thinking of women when they created the site. The women do not pay anything to register, or to get in touch with men registered on the site. Men are the ones who have to pay if they want to send messages, little hearts or use other techniques of “virtual seduction”. The 100 credits – allowing contact with an average of 20 women – cost $25.

Photos with men posing shirtless, faces with bold looks, descriptions such as “sensitive and loving, creative and adventurous” are just some of the means used by men in order to “capitalize” their investment.

“Send me a picture,” demands from the beginning of the conversation Guto, contacted by a journalist from AFP. Guto has been married for 21 years and joined this site in March. Since then, he has bought 4000 credits.

“I spent more than I wanted, but I managed to have a few contacts and I had two very good experiences,”

he revealed.

After a year of presence in Brazil, Ashley Madison launched the “lover guaranteed” program for each person enrolled to be sure that they have at least an adventure. Otherwise, they will be “compensated”. “So far, nobody has asked this,” said Eduardo Borges.

David Benoliel, regional administrator of the site, states that success in Latin America, with 1.6 million users, is “surprising” for a region in which “social and religious taboos” are still numerous. Ashley Madison site is also present in Mexico, Colombia, Venezuela, Chile, Argentina and Puerto Rico. According to the site administrators, a sexual adventure is the perfect solution to save a marriage, bringing joy to the soul of a dissatisfied man.

“If something is missing in your marriage, but you do not want to divorce, here you will find what you are looking for. We do not create betrayal, we improve it,”

says Eduardo Borges.
