In order to fit Angel Pagan in centerfield, Carlos Beltran, the outfielder of NewYork Mets, will shift his position from the center and move towards the right field as announced on Monday.
Beltran who has 3 Gold Glove achievements in his pocket for fielding excellently in center and being a star for five times, didn’t play the first half of the last season as he underwent a knee surgery and could play only 64 games in total.
Beltran, who has turned 33, was still seen having a brace on the right knee and it is not expected that he will be playing for another week in any case during the training programs being held in spring in Florida.
The club commented that Pagan who filled the position during Beltran’s leave will be taking the position of centerfield permanently.
As per the official website of the league, Pagan stated that he was given an opportunity to fill Carlos’ position when he was absent due to disability and he tried his best to do his job and he was confident that he has proved himself and done well.
Pagan who is 29 years old as an entrant drove 69 runs, batted 290 during his initial full season.
Beltran who is an excellent base runner, proved it during his career, and swiped the bases three times in the last season, conveyed to Mets that he was still having difficulty with his injured knee and in his heart he still felt that he could play well in the center field.
Beltran whose average for batting was 255, the lowest one during the last decade, also commented that it is all regarding the team and was not concerned with his personal play.
