“Black Swan” Breaks Sales Record for Searchlight

The Black Swan starring Natalie Portman was screened on eight markets, into a total of 18 theaters and it sold tickets worth 1.4 million dollars, meaning some 77,460 dollars per cinema, which is a record breaking amount for Searchlight studio.

The movie, which has a thrilling atmosphere and tells the story of ballet dancers, was directed by Darren Aronofsky, who directed among others “The Wrestler” and “Requiem for a Dream”.

“Black Swan” is supposed to be screened in 60 locations by next weekend.

The period drama “The King’s Speech”, produced by Weinstein Co. and featuring Geoffrey and Rush Colin Firth, generated more than 325 thousand dollars, at above 55,000 per cinema. The movie attracted some 800 thousand dollars over two weekends.

“I love you Phillip Morris”, produced at Roadside Attractions studio, with Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor, was also well received, scoring 113,200 dollars from movie fans. Considering the low marketing budget the movie had, producers said they were very satisfied with the performance, especially since it is seen as the “underdog” compared to high-end “Black Swan”.

With 20,000 dollars per venue, “All Good Things” directed by Andrew Jarecki also had a good box office weekend. The drama had a concurrent debut in video-on-demand and cinemas.
