British Petroleum to Sell $1 Billion of Its North Sea Assets

Oil and gas giant British Petroleum (BP) is reportedly approaching quite a few UK-based companies that might be interested in acquiring some of the company’s assets in the North Sea. The value of the assets is in the vicinity of one billion dollars.

The Daily Telegraph quoted several bankers and companies to have been approached by the tormented company on a pre-tender basis concerning a portfolio of non-core fields, before any auction.

An energy company CEO said that they were looking at some gas assets but it was still too early to call anything.

ExxonMobil are also looking to sell some $2 billion worth of North Sea assets, reported Daily Telegraph, because of the low margin of the fields. They were becoming less interesting for the bigger companies, the newspaper said.

This news has not been confirmed by BP as of yet.

Earlier this year, BP told that they were planning to sell $30 billion of assets to generate cash to pay for the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico last April.
