Canada has Frozen Gaddafi’s Assets

The Prime Minister of Canada, Stephen Harper announced Sunday the freezing of Muammar Gaddafi’s and his family assets, called for his resignation and to “stop the blood bath”.

In a statement broadcast live in French and English on television, Harper said that his country will impose the sanctions implemented by the UN Security Council against the Libyan regime and that it will go beyond these measures.

He announced that in addition to freezing Gaddafi’s and his family and the travel ban against the Libyan leader and a number of 15 close ties to Gaddafi, Ottawa will freeze any financial operation with the government in Tripoli and other Libyan organizations, including the Central Libyan Bank.

Gaddafi charged that Harper has violated his fundamental obligation, that of ensuring the security of citizens in his country and called on Libyan leader to stop the “bloodbath” and “to give up the function and his powers”.
