David Cameron: the Time Has Come for Muammar Gaddafi to Leave

British Prime Minister David Cameron declared today that “it is time” Muammar Gaddafi leave, adding that the Libyan leader no longer has any role to play in his country’s future.

During a speech on Sunday after a new rescue operation by the British army of 150 foreign civilians stranded in the Libyan desert, the head of the London government gave assurances that the Libyan regime was sent a clear message: “it’s time to go for Colonel Gaddafi and the time to leave is now”. “There is no room for him in Libya in the future”, added Cameron.

“We maintain a strong pressure on this regime”, he said. “The measures we take against the regime are banning the travel and freezing assets to show how isolated he is” added Cameron.

British finance minister George Osborne announced earlier the freezing of some assets of the Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi and his family, so they can not “be used against the Libyan people’s interests”, in the context of the sanctions decided on Saturday by the UN Security Council. According to the assessment in London, Colonel Gaddafi has about 20 billion Pounds (23.4 billion Euros) in cash, especially in London, The Telegraph newspaper wrote.

The British government has also removed the diplomatic immunity of Libyan leader and his sons in the United Kingdom, announced Sunday British Foreign Minister William Hague.
