The man, a former police officer, is one of the leaders of the violent cartel ‘Juarez’, according to Mexican government. He was captured Wednesday in Chihuahua, together with two accomplices, federal police said in a statement. Marco Antonio Guzman, 34 years old, had several nicknames, including “El Brad Pitt.” The man was transported under escort in Mexico City, where he was presented, handcuffed, to the journalists.
Sources from the Mexican police said that in June 2010, Guzman was involved in organizing the bomb that killed a policeman of the federal forces and two civilians. The man is also accused for participating in drug trafficking in Chihuahua.
In addition, he is accused that he took part in an assassination filmed and posted online.
A federal official, who asked to remain anonymous, said that the nickname “El Brad Pitt” was given to Guzman back in time, when he played the guardian role for Juarez cartel, when he used to disguise himself.
To pass unnoticed, he was disguised as tourist wearing long hair, baseball caps, and a camera around his neck. Gang members found him looking like the actor Brad Pitt in a scene from the movie “Spy Game” about CIA agents, hence the nickname.
For the capture of Guzman, who was suspected by police that he planned a new attack with car bombs, the reward was 42,000 dollars.
Ciudad Juarez is the city most affected by narcotics trafficking. In 2010, 3,100 people died in this city, victims in the drugs war.
