Gina Lollobrigida will sell her jewelry for charity

After a modest childhood, spent in a rural area, Gina Lollobrigida came to play alongside some of the biggest actors in Hollywood, such as Humphrey Bogart, Rock Hudson, Burt Lancaster, Tony Curtis and Frank Sinatra. With a brilliant career in France, Italy and Hollywood, Gina Lollobrigida said that he began collecting Bulgari jewelry, which she always bought herself, as she was enjoying a growing fame, achieved through hard work.

Currently 85 years old, after she gave up acting in 1980 to devote her time to photojournalism, charities and sculpture, Gina Lollobrigida says it’s time for those jewels to be used for a good purpose.

A total of 22 of her jewelry collection will be auctioned by Sotheby’s in Geneva on May 14, after being first exhibited in London, New York and Rome. The Italian actress says it will donate the money they she would get to a fund that will finance a hospital where tests will be carried out in the research of stem cells.

“It will not be the end for jewelry, but it will be a good purpose, help a cause that is very important to me. I want to leave a beautiful memory of my life,” said Gina Lollobrigida.

Among those jewels there is a pair of earrings with pearls and diamonds made in 1964, estimated at $1 million, a diamond ring of 19.03 carats, estimated also at $1 million, and a set made in 1954, consisting of a diamond necklace and a diamond bracelet, estimated at $500,000. The actress will also put up for sale a pair of earrings with emeralds and diamonds – that she wore at a reception in 1965, where she was photographed with Salvador Dali – estimated at $250,000.

Gina Lollobrigida, who was a student at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome when she was noticed while participating in a beauty contest by Italian director Vittorio de Sica, says that she currently focuses on sculpture and that she doesn’t have a need for jewelry. In the last decade, her sculptures have been exhibited in museums in Moscow, Paris and Venice.

Gina Lollobrigida has always been in the shadow of Sophia Loren, although many say she was a woman more beautiful Sophia. In the ’50s and ’60s, Lollobrigida has been called “the most beautiful woman in the world.”

The list of her most famous films includes “Solomon and Sheba”, “Bread, Love and Jealousy” and “Notre Dame de Paris.”
