Hosni Mubarak Could be Executed by Hanging

Former President Hosni Mubarak could be sentenced to the capital punishment if found guilty, the government Al-Ahram newspaper announced.

President of the Court of Appeal of Cairo, Shalah Zakaria said that the former Egyptian leader could be executed if found guilty he deliberately killed demonstrators, notes Al-Ahram newspaper Friday.

According to Shalah, after former Interior Minister, Habib al-Adli, investigated for having ordered to fire on protesters, took the stand as a witness, will make things more complicated, if confirmed.

Al-Adli argues that Hosni Mubarak had given him orders to use force against demonstrators.

If it turns out that this is true, he will be punished the same way as the person who led the repression and this could be about an execution, if it is proved that there was premeditation in killing peaceful demonstrators. If it was premeditated, he will be sentenced to life in prison, the President of the Court of Appeals said.

Mubarak, along with his two sons, Gamal and Alaa, were arrested Wednesday for 15 days in an investigation of the violent repression of demonstrations in Egypt in January and February, which killed 800 people.

Mubarak could be sentenced to imprisonment for three to five years if it’s proved that, after he ordered the repression, protesters were injured. The investigation could take at least six months, it was announced on state television and legal proceedings could last at least a year.
