Production cost of the most expensive iPhone 5 model, the device with 64GB internal memory is only $230, according to research firm IHS Suppli estimates, while the selling price without subscription is $849 in the United States .
IHS Suppli released Tuesday the results of a test with the iPhone 5, which involved removing components, identification of their pricing and adding the 8$ cost per unit for assembly. Materials and assembly costs amount to $207 for the 16 GB iPhone 5, $209 for the 32 GB model and $230 for the 64 GB, according to the research firm quoted by MarketWatch. IHS Suppli estimated earlier this week a cost of $207 for the 16 GB model, $217 for the 32 GB model and $238 for the most expensive model. Telecommunication companies in the U.S. sell the iPhone 5 with subscription for $199 (16 GB), $299 (32 GB) and $399 (64 GB).
In the U.S., the price of iPhone 5 without contract is $649 (16 GB), $749 (32 GB) and $849 (64 GB). In Europe, the iPhone 5 was released in France, Germany and Britain. In France and Germany, members of eurozone, the prices are €679 (16 GB), €789 (32 GB) and €899 (64 GB).
Yesterday Apple announced that it sold over 5 million iPhone 5 units in three days after launch on Friday, in stores, while analysts anticipated that deliveries could reach in the first weekend after launch up to 10 million units. Sales surpassed the 4 million units of the previous model iPhone 4S sold in the first three days of its launch in October last year.
iPhone 5 is available in the United States, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and the United Kingdom and on September 28 it will be on the market in 22 other countries. By the end of this year, the iPhone will be on sale in 100 countries.
In the fiscal year 2011, Apple earned revenues of over $ 47 billion from iPhone sales. The U.S. company has cash of over $120 billion after record profits in recent years.
Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) shares closed at $673.54 on Tuesday after dropping 2.5% during the day.
