Iranian Foreign Minister: “We don’t believe in a stupid Israeli attack”

Israeli attack on IranIranian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ali Akbar Salehi, said yesterday that he doesn’t believe in a “stupid” Israel attack against Iran’s nuclear facilities, while this possibility was frequently raised by Israeli media in recent time, according to AFP. “We are regularly witnessing unfounded statements and we appreciate that there are no conditions in place for such action,” said Ministry spokesman, Ramin Mehmanparsat, during a weekly press conference.

“Although one of the officials of this illegitimate regime wants to initiate such a stupid action, the Israeli government, will not allow them to do so because they will have to suffer very serious consequences of such actions,” he added. “In our calculations we do not take very seriously these threats,” he said.

Israeli media has intensified in recent days speculations about a possible Israeli attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities. “The repetition of these statements comes from the Zionist regime’s domestic problems, the deep divisions between them and the huge social crisis there is” in this country, Mehmanparsat added, alluding to social demonstrations in recent weeks.

Similarly, Iranian Defense Minister, General Ahmad Vahidi, said that “these statements are a sign of weakness and fear, and no sign of power,” according to IRNA, the Iranian official news agency. “The weak Zionist regime, which is heading for extinction, (…) certainly doesn’t have the necessary strength and will to resist Iran,” he said, qualifying Israeli leaders as “brainless” and “belligerents”.

While Israeli officials have said that there is no more time for diplomacy, White House spokesman Jay Carney said Monday that, in contrast, Washington believes that there is still time for further negotiations on the Iranian nuclear power program. “We still believe that there is still time for diplomacy, and Iran can take advantage of this process,” he insisted.
