Kazakhstan Inbound Tourism on the Rise

New attractions and industrial opportunities led to an 8 percent increase of inbound tourism over the past few years, according to data presented by the head of the Tourism and Sports Departments of Astana, Nurlan Zhanybek.

Rising interest in Kazakhstan’s industry is key to tourism development, as 80 percent of the country’s tourism is generated by business related visits.

According to Kazakhstan’s Consul General in New York, Raushan Yesbulatova, the government aims to transform the country into the tourism hub of Central Asia.

The country is now preparing for the hosting of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe summit that will take place on December 1-2.

Some of the most recent successes in promoting tourism in Kazakhstan are the “Best Stand” award for Asia, Pacific and Australia at the Tourism Exchange exhibition in Berlin. The government allocated large funds this year to assist the country’s tourism industry and Kazakhstan has participated in several tourism fares in Beijing, Berlin, London, Madrid, Moscow, Paris, Seoul, and Tokyo.

Kazakhstani attractions include the Charyn Canyon’s unusual rock formations and landscape on  the Charyn River, the place of worship of ancient Saks, called the Five Tents, also known as the Necropolis of Bes-Shatir, the Singing Dunes, where visitors can hear organ-like sounds produced by the sand dunes, as well as the portable home used by ancient nomads – the Kazakh Yurt.
